KWARA RANKS FIRST IN NORTHERN NIGERIAN IN TRCN TEACHERS’ QUALIFYING EXAMINATION

Kwara State has recorded an outstanding performance in the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), emerging as the highest-performing state in Northern Nigeria with a 93.8 per cent pass rate.

The recognition was conveyed by the TRCN in a congratulatory letter to the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, signed by the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Council, Dr. Ronke Soyombo.

A total of 678 candidates registered for the examination, with 616 candidates sitting for the examination and 578 successfully passing, representing a 93.8 per cent success rate.

The result is a significant indicator of the calibre and professional preparedness of teachers in the state, and reflects the importance of sustained investment in teacher recruitment, professional development and education-sector reform.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, attributed the performance to the state’s standardised and merit-based teacher recruitment process, alongside continued investment in teacher development.

He also welcomed TRCN’s readiness to collaborate with the state to address identified gaps in mathematics through targeted professional development programmes for teachers.

For Kwara State, the recognition reinforces the importance of building an education system in which qualified teachers, continuous professional development, strong institutional support and evidence-based reforms work together to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

As Kwara continues to strengthen its education sector, the achievement provides an encouraging benchmark while also pointing to areas where further investment and targeted interventions are required.
