Insights From The Field: Brilliance, Examinations, and an Uncomfortable Question About Learning.
June 4, 2026The National Executive Council of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has commenced the reorganization of its Kwara State Chapter as part of efforts to strengthen constitutional compliance, stakeholder participation, and effective coordination of PTA structures across the country.
According to the National body, the reorganization follows prolonged inactivity of the Kwara State Chapter at both the national and zonal levels dating back over 20 years to the Pa Makama era, despite constitutional provisions limiting the tenure of State officers to a two-year term renewable for only one further term of two years.
The reorganization process includes the reconstitution of the State leadership structure pending the conduct of fresh elections and the emergence of a duly constituted State Executive Council in line with the provisions of the Association’s Constitution.
As a key stakeholder within the education ecosystem, the Parent-Teacher Association occupies a representative seat on the Board of Trustees of the Kwara State Education Trust Fund (KwaraETF), reflecting the importance of parental and community participation in education development across the State.
Following this development, KwaraETF acknowledges the expiration of the tenure of Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye as the PTA representative on the Board of Trustees of the Fund pending the emergence of a duly constituted State Executive Council in accordance with the constitutional provisions governing the Association on the 18th of May, 2026 due to all officers being relieved by the National Executive Council of NAPTAN.
The Fund recognizes and deeply appreciates Alhaji Oniye’s contributions toward the achievement of KwaraETF’s objectives over the years. His service, support, and commitment to advancing education development in Kwara State have been significant, and the Fund regrets the loss of the expertise and positive impact it would have continued to benefit from through his membership of the Board.
KwaraETF recognizes the ongoing exercise as an important institutional step toward strengthening governance and ensuring that stakeholder representation within the education ecosystem remains aligned with established constitutional procedures.
As a stakeholder institution committed to accountability, inclusive participation, and sustainable education development, the Fund will continue to engage with duly constituted and constitutionally compliant stakeholder structures throughout the reorganization process.
KwaraETF remains committed to productive collaboration with parents, schools, communities, and education stakeholders across the State and looks forward to the successful conclusion of the exercise and the emergence of a duly constituted State PTA leadership.
